SL1 Sqn Ldr Andy Flynn

Role : Deputy Wing Commander, Wing Gliding Liason Officer & Wing Duke of Edinburgh Award Officer

Biography

  • Joined the ATC as a cadet with 51 Sqn in Evington Leicester in 1976 achieving the rank of CWO in 1980.
  • Became a CI in 1982 and transferred to 2070 (Glenfield) Sqn. Appointed Sqn WO on 11 July 1984.
  • Became an active member of the South Midlands Wing Training team and was also team manager for the Wing Rugby Teams.
  • Commissioned in the RAFVR (T) on 11 April 1986 and was appointed as Sqn Adjutant of 2070 Sqn.
  • Promoted to Flying Officer in 1988 and was shortly after appointed OC 1461 Sqn and promoted to Flt Lt.
  • Transferred to 1188 Coalville Sqn in 1996
  • Appointed as Wing Staff Officer in 1997 to the then South Midlands Wing as Physical Education Officer.
  • Continued in this role in the newly formed South & East Midlands Wing in 1999 until 2001 when appointed Training Officer for Cadet Development.
  • Promoted to Sqn Ldr in February 2002
  • In 2005 the Wing Staff roles were re defined and a new role of Wing Vocational Qualifications Officer was created to look after all the BTEC awards. Took on this role along with Gliding Liaison Officer, passing over other aspects of Cadet Training to Sqn Ldr Richards.
  • In Jan 2008 took on the role of Wing DofE Awards Officer, handing over resposibility for Vocational Qualifications to Flt Lt Julie Flynn.
  • In June 2008 appointed Regional DofE Officer for Central & East Region in addition to Wing Roles.
