Air Cadet Service Recognition Scheme

What is the Air Cadet Service Recognition Scheme?

Each year a number of Air Cadets from both the Air Training Corps and the RAF Sections of the Combined Cadet Force select the Royal Air Force as their first choice career. The first step in turning that aspiration into a reality is a contact with the RAF recruiting and selection organisations. We feel that young people who have already spent time in the Air Cadet Organisation should have a standard way of presenting evidence of their achievements. The format for presenting that evidence has now been agreed and will be known as the Air Cadet Service Recognition Scheme. The RAF offers young people a range of rewarding career paths. However, military Service should not be embarked upon without a real understanding of the risks involved.

How will the scheme work?

The scheme will be based on an information form that will need to be completed by the squadron or flight commander. The form will be issued on request by the Armed Forces Careers Office as part of their standard packup. In addition, copies will be held on the cadets unit. The detail on this form will record individual achievement. During the trial period the scheme will be paper based but with the development of the Air Cadet Organisation’s electronic management system, Project Bader, the scheme will migrate into electronic form.

How does a Cadet access the scheme?

In order to use the scheme a cadet must first have achieved the following:

  • Complete a minimum of 18 months enrolled service.
  • Flown in an RAF glider and/or powered aircraft.
  • Achieved the classification of Leading Cadet.
  • Gained a minimum of Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award.
  • Completed a formal shoot on a range with an Air Rifle or .22 Rifle.
  • Participated in a residential activity of 2 days or more. (other than D of E)

These activities taken together will be known as the Basic CV.

What achievements are recorded using the scheme?

To reflect the different levels of achievement to be found within the Air Cadet Organisation, the RAF recruiting and selection services and the Air Cadet Organisation have agreed the following:

What is the reason for the points system?

The points scoring system is to alert the RAF to the fact that the Air Cadet Organisation has assessed an individuals Service. Whilst all cadet Service is praiseworthy, those cadets with a high 3-4 pt score will have their achievements recognised during the interview phases of recruitment or selection.

Can a Cadet apply to the RAF if they have not achieved the Basic CV?

Yes they can. There are many ways that cadets can demonstrate that they meet the RAF’s entry requirement, the Air Cadet Service Recognition Scheme is only one of them.
