126 (City of Derby) Squadron has won the Punch Trophy for the second year after coming runners up in the Battle of Britain shooting competition.
The team from Derby consisted of 5 members – Flt Sgt Taisiya Marsh, Flt Sgt Charlotte Chetwyn, Cpl Joshua Balson, Cdt Dean Cottrill and Cdt Alice Southall. They travelled to Bisley last weekend to compete against Army and Air Cadets in the national Battle of Britain shooting competition.
The team came second in the competition overall, winning the Punch Trophy. They narrowly missed out on first place by 11 points. First place was taken by another ATC unit, Shawlands Squadron.
Individual team members scored very highly in the competition. Flt Sgt Marsh came third out of all of the cadets participating. Cdt Southall, the youngest member of the 126 squadron team came fourth overall. This was an incredible achievement for the 2 girls, competing against the best shots not only in the ATC but also from the Army cadets.
Adult Sgt Ben Hirst, the squadron team coach said, “The cadets shot really well. They only missed out on first place by a few points. The team are still very young so I am hopeful that we will come back next year and take first prize.”
