126 (City of Derby) Squadron have won the WJ Taylor Inter-Wing small bore shooting competition on behalf of South & East Midlands Wing for the second consecutive year.

The team shot their way to victory against ATC Wings from across the UK. Traditionally won by a Scottish or Welsh Wing, the Derby team are extremely proud to win the competition and bring the trophy back to a Wing in England for the second time.

The 8-man team from 126 Squadron was led by team captain Flt Sgt Taisiya Marsh. The team won the competition overall with a score of 581 out of 600. Flt Sgt Marsh said, “We were very proud to represent South & East Midlands Wing for a second year. The Derby cadets have a real passion for shooting. We had an enjoyable weekend which was topped off when we walked away with the WJ Taylor trophy.”

The 126 Squadron shooting team have had a fantastic year so far. They won the Punch Trophy back in March. The shooting team captain, Flt Sgt Marsh, will travel to Canada over the summer with a UK Cadet team. In addition, Sgt Cotterill and Cpl Thompstone will join the UK Cadet Rifle Team in a few weeks for a tour of the Channel Islands.

The team is coached by Adult Sgt Ben Hirst and Adult Sgt Helen Southall who dedicate many hours training the team. They will now focus on their summer shooting competitions which will include the Inter Services Cadet Rifle Meet at Bisley. They are hopeful of bringing many more trophies back to the East Midlands.
