126 City of Derby Squadron were dressed to kill for the James Bond themed Annual Summer Ball. Cadets and staff swapped their blue uniforms and cammo-cream for a 007 inspired dress code.
In true James Bond style, three Aston Martins were on display for the cadets to admire whilst they tucked into a banquet of pork cooked on a hog roast and ice cream. Throughout the night a cadet friendly Casino was available to win big (fake) bucks and the ultimate prize was a helicopter ride for the ‘richest’ person by the end of the night!
Cadet Bolsover won the helicopter ride: “I am absolutely ecstatic that I won! Luck was clearly on my side tonight!”
Despite days of heavy rain and dark clouds looming on the night, the cadets were shaken but not stirred by the wind and still maintained a tremendous atmosphere.
The Summer Ball is an annual event for 126 Squadron. It is an opportunity for the Squadron to get together on a social level and promote teamwork and friendship building.
The Summer Ball also proved to be the perfect backdrop for two cadets to celebrate their 18th Birthday and to welcome three new Civilian Instructors to the team. CI Sellers: “The Summer Ball was my first event with 126 and was a great way to start my ATC career. Everyone looked fabulous and I had a brilliant night.”
Once again, 126 pulled off a fantastic night enjoyed by all. A special thank you goes to Squadron Leader Ian Marshall MBE, the Civilian Committee and other members of staff and who organised the event. A lot of effort was put in and inevitably it was worth it.
