1359 (Beeston) Sqn hold their first Winter Ball

Article posted: Dec 14, 2008 by Sqn Ldr Wilson

Months of planning came to fruition on Friday 5th December when 1359 (Beeston) Sqn held their inaugural Winter Ball in the parade hall of the co-located EMUOTC.

The brainchild of Warrant Officer Gary Tinsley and Flying Officer Gareth Fowler the ball was held to raise funds and provide gifts for the Children’s Ward at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Over 170 guests were welcomed to the event by Cadet Anisah Britton on flute and her friends Roisin on harp and Charlotte on the clarinet. A photographer was present to capture the formal pictures.

Following the welcome speech from Flt Lt Philip Bannister, OC 1359 Sqn, the disco got underway, followed by the opening of the buffet and the drawing of the raffle. The guests danced the night away to all the usual party favourites played by the DJ, ex-cadet Jason Norton. There was also a great reception for the live band, The Lizard Kings, who did two exceptional sets covering great songs, old and new.

The ball ended in the early hours of Saturday morning but the work was not over for the squadron. Just a few hours’ later staff and cadets were back on scene clearing up and putting everything back in place, the OTC would never know we’d been there!

A big thank you to everyone who turned up and supported this event, it couldn’t have been successful without you. Huge thanks also to the Civilian Committee in providing the funds and logistics to allow the event to happen and to all the staff and cadets who helped turn the parade hall into a winter wonderland.

See you all in 2009!
