1461 Attend Wing Sports Trials

Article posted: Nov 07, 2014 by Flt Lt Rayson-Flynn

On the 5th of October Flt Sgt Jinni Sur, Flt Sgt Frank Huckle and Cpl Kathryn Hardy of 1461 Wigston were lucky enough to represent their squadron at the Inter-Wing Hockey and Football competition.

Not only were they representing their own squadron but South and East Midlands Wing as a whole, spending the day competing against the five other wings that make up Central and East Region. Starting the day early cadets made their way to RAF Cranwell where the competition is held. Having been picked for the team at Wing trials a few weeks’ earlier cadets joined the rest of the chosen cadets and got changed into the team kit, ready and motivated for their first matches. “It was a brilliant day and it’s great because there is so much team spirit, all the teams want to do their best so it keeps the adrenaline pumping too!” said Cpl Hardy.

With the best from each Wing chosen, the competition is tough; however cadets worked together and pushed through as a team to achieve the best score they could. Overall the day went well not only did the sun stay shining for the competition but South and East Midlands came out with some great results, with the Boys football coming third overall and the Girls hockey coming fourth, cadets left the day on a high and look forward to trying out again for the team next year.
