1461 Cadets Go Flying

Article posted: Sep 21, 2015 by Flt Lt Rayson-Flynn

On Sunday the 13th of September, 1461 Cadets had the opportunity to go flying with 7AEF at RAF Cranwell. 10 Cadets from 1461 (Wigston) Squadron met at the Squadron at 10am, accompanied by Flt Lt Gibson.

For many, this was the first time they had been given the opportunity to go flying. Having arrived at Cranwell, the cadets were given a flying brief that stated what the protocol was in an emergency. First to fly were Cadet’s Mansfield-Smith and Oakes. Both landed with large grins on their faces!

As the day continued, the cadets took it in turns to go up in the air, having the opportunity to take control of the aircraft themselves!

Cadet Oakes, who had never flown before, commented that “it was a great opportunity and something that I will definitely do again. I was slightly nervous before I got into the Aircraft but as soon as we were up in the air, I felt absolutely fine. It is an activity that I will go back and recommend to the other cadets at my Squadron.”
