30 Cadets and staff from 1461 Wigston Sqn have recently been given a tour of the East Midlands Air Support Unit. The Police Helicopter, based in south Leicestershire serves 3 local police forces and can be airborne in a matter of minutes when they are scrambled. The cadets were given a “walk and talk” around the aircraft, by one of the Police Observers. They were shown things such as the camera system that can switch from normal to thermal imaging and the very powerful night sun search light. The cadets were given the chance to get hands on and were allowed in the helicopter and got to use the different cameras and tools that are available to the Police to observe and catch the criminals.

Fg Off Tim Hargraves, OiC 1461 Sqn said “ This has been a really good opportunity for the cadets to see a different side of the aviation world. To be able to get so close to such an impressive piece of kit, and to be able to use the equipment in the back is a fantastic opportunity.”
