The Stapleford & Sandiacre Rotary Club were on hand to present a cheque for £1,750 to Stapleford Air Cadets during their annual dinner held at the Long Eaton Masonic Hall.
Rotarians Richard Taylor and Keith Earnshaw presented the cheque to Mandy Seaton, Chair of No 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron, Air Training Corps at the end of the Squadron’s Annual Dining In Night.
The money was made available through a legacy left by Tom Blaney to be used for the enhancement of the youngsters of Stapleford. The squadron will use the money to replace their aging tents that have served the cadets so well over the years and particular to enable the cadets to better participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
This annual dinner gives the squadron the opportunity to thank those who have helped the squadron during the year as well providing a platform to publicise the achievements of the cadets.
This year over seventy sat down to the excellent meal. Wing Commander Martin Nash OBE RAFVR (T) Rtd was the guest of honour and The Town mayor of Stapleford, Cllr David Grindell headed the Civic representatives accompanied by his escort Cllr Helen Grindell. The Town’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Goff Walt, and the past Mayor, Cllr Jacky Williams also attended.
During his speech, Flight Lieutenant Allan Munns, Officer Commanding the Squadron, paid tribute to the cadets; “I am proud of the cadets in the squadron and am especially proud of the outstanding success in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme that has seen the Squadron gain eight Gold Awards, thirteen Silver and around eleven Bronze Awards this year”.
Allan Also thanked the partners of the staff at the squadron without whom the cadets could not have achieved what they have.
