On Sunday 6th July 2014, Cadets from 1936 (Newton) Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the annual Wing Field Day held at RAF Wittering. The event is a multi-category competition between all 29 Squadrons which comprise the South and East Midlands Wing.
The categories include the prestigious Drill competition, diorama modelling, media, shooting leadership and aircraft recognition. Overall, 1936 achieved 11th place. However, the team entered for Drill achieved an amazing 3rd place, beating the traditional favourites of 126 (City of Derby) Squadron!
Officer Commanding 1936 (Newton) Sqn, Flying Officer Liam Waring said of his Squadron’s success, “I’m immensely proud of the staff and cadet team here at Newton. After a difficult few months, they’ve demonstrated the values that have been expected of them. Eleventh place in a Wing of twenty nine is fantastic!”.
Newton came third in the Drill section and came away with a trophy for a shooting competition held in April of this year.
Onwards and Upwards for Newton!
