In order to remind cadets why we celebrate the Battle of Britain, 2248 (Rutland) cadets came dressed in 1940’s fashion for their parade night.
During the evening ATC Flt Sgt Rob Gardner (Fg Off Gardner a WW2 pilot) showed films and explained what led up to the Battle and footage of the Battle in action. During the evening cadets discussed how they would have felt during those days. Cdt Yasmin Makinde said “It is difficult to imagine what it was like in the 1940’s, but I enjoyed dressing up for the evening”. In their break the cadets drank tea from china cups and saucers. The overall winner for their 1940’s costume was Cdt Natalie Hall.
On Battle of Britain Sunday, Rutland Sqn paraded alongside Melton (1279), Hamilton and Ratcliffe CCF cadets in Melton Mowbray. Luckier the weather held out, so there was a good turnout of cadets and members of the public.
