On Sunday 17 April 2011, four cadets from 1F City of Leicester Squadron, of the Air Training Corps attended 643 Squadron Volunteer Gliding School, Based at RAF Syerston in Nottinghamshire, to complete their Gliding Induction Course.

All four cadets, Cadet Corporal Bellini, Sangani and Cadets Babra and Hawkes took to the clear blue skies above RAF Syerston. The sun shone throughout the day and the wind stayed very light. Around lunch time things really started to heat up and the circuit times went up from an average of 6 minutes to 15 + minutes, one cadet bagging a 50 minute flight time with one launch. All the cadets completed various elements of the Gliding Induction Course (GIC) which involves learning about the Pitch, Roll and Yaw characteristics of the Viking Glider.

Cadet Babra who has never flown in a glider before said “ I was a little nervous before we took off, but once we had taken off it was amazing. I really cant wait to go gliding again”

All the cadets landed safely with their feet firmly on the ground and all displayed the usual grinning smile displayed by cadets who have just had a great flight.
