1F City of Leicester squadron recently hosted an awards evening. The evening was well attended by Cadets, Parents and Staff.

The evening started off by the Cadets demonstrating the “Drill Circle” to the parents. Although the drill was completed to a high standard, it was slightly surprising if not well deserving for the team to be introduced as “1F’s Drill Display Team” by the Commanding Officer of 1F Flt Lt Aimee Hurst.

After the Drill Display team proved their worth the presentation of awards was started. A vast array of awards were presented from BTEC to Classification exams and the usual Best Cadet / Recruit ETC. The awards were presented by Flt Lt Hurst.

During the presentations Cadet Cpl Molly Henson was also promoted to the rank of Cadet Sergeant. This went down well with the large number of guests invited by Cpl Henson. 45 Parents attended the evening.

The evening was finished by an informal chat over tea and biscuits where the virtues of the Civilian Committee was enthused about to the new prospective members (sorry Parents!)

Cadet Kyle Kirkland who was jointly awarded the shield for the “Best Achievement of a cadet” along with Cadet Warrant Officer Daniel McGlyn said “I was really surprised to get this award, I couldn’t believe they were talking about me when they read out my name, I really enjoy cadets so this is just a bonus”
