On Sunday 7 February 2010, 1F (City of Leicester) Squadron, of the Air Training Corps (ATC) attended and took part in a parade held in Syston village. The parade was organised by 1181 (Syston) Squadron ATC, to celebrate ATC Sunday. The parade was attended by around 60 cadets and 25 adult staff from 5 other ATC squadrons from around the South and East Midlands Wing, of the Air Training Corps.Watching the parade were members of the public and local dignitaries, including the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and the Lord Mayor of Leicester. The Air Officer Commanding Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart was also present at the parade.
Prior to the parade the new flight simulator facility of 1181 (Syston) Squadron was unveiled and the dignitaries took a quick lesson in flying the latest military hardware, albeit from the safe confines of a flight simulator.
Cadet Dhesi from 1F (City of Leicester) Squadron commented that “ Its great to parade like this in public, it allows us to show off our uniform and show our parents and friends what the Air Cadets is all about”
