Shoppers in Oadby, Leicester were given an early surprise present this Christmas. Customers at Sainsbury’s, Oadby were treated to some help packing their bags from a merry and cheerful team of cadets from 1F (City of Leicester) Squadron.

On the 23rd December 2010, the small team of cadets volunteered to give up a day of their Christmas holidays to help their local neighbourhood. Customers were delighted to see the smiling faces of the cadets helping them to pack their final bits of Christmas shopping. Throughout the day, the cadets were kept busy with customers eager for their help.

In total the group managed to raise a fantastic £381.32 to help go towards some great activities in the new year. Cadet Warrant Officer Daniel McGlynn commented, ‘It was brilliant to see the cadets helping out members of the public in this festive season. Lots of people told us how smart the cadets looked and how polite and helpful the cadets were. We were even lucky enough to meet some original members of 1F Squadron from back in the days of the Air Defence Cadet Corps!’

At the end of the day, there was a bigger treat for some of the rugby mad cadets in the form of a celebrity shopper. Leicester Tigers Full Back, Scott Hamilton, dropped by for some last minute Christmas shopping and the cadets took great delight in assisting him to bag his shopping.
