V.I.P’s, Guests, Staff, Cadets and Parents celebrated 73 years of 1 founder Squadron of the Air Training Corp’s by holding a formal dining in night on Saturday the 8th October 2011.

The formal dining in night was held at Devonshire Place, London Road, Leicester. The Guests started arriving at approximately 19:00hrs. The List of V.I.P’s included The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Lady Jenny Gretton JP, The Lord mayor, Councillor Robert Wann, Group Captain and Mrs B Morrell, Wing Commander Dickinson OBE, and Mrs and Mrs R D Bream. The function was attended by approximately 80 guests, who all came dressed in the formal attire required for such an auspicious occasion.

The meal served by Devonshire Place was of the highest quality and many comments were heard complimenting the high standards set by the Chefs and Staff. The after dinner talks were delivered by Officer Commanding 1fouder Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Aimee Hurst, Lady Jenny Gretton and Group Captain Brett Morrell. After the speeches a number of awards and presentations were made to cadets by the VIP guests. The recurring theme throughout the evening was the history and service that 1f squadron has given to not only the City of Leicester but to the UK as a whole.

The original ensign allocated to No’ 1 Squadron of the Air Defence Cadet Corps 73 years ago was on display throughout the evening. This was no mean feat and was only possible after much hard work was carried out by the squadron’s present OC Flt Lt Aimee Hurst in trying to locate it

The dining in night was enjoyed by all who attended and proved quite an eye opener to the new cadets who had attended their first formal dining in night. Cadet Dillan Lee said “I really enjoyed the night, it was great to see the formal traditions of the Air Force and to meet such important people”.
