Cadets and Staff from 1F (City of Leicester) squadron Air Training Corps recently attended a service and parade to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
The day started on a bright Saturday morning when all the VIP guests entered Leicester Cathedral via a guard of honour displaying the various local Standards. The service was overseen by the Right Reverend Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester. The theme of the service was about forming a covenant between the military and civilian communities, this could transform society and increase co-operation between all so we could all move forward and “Face the future without fear” This message was delivered by local dignitaries, Clergy and service personnel. Civilian Instructor Daniel McGlyn an ex Cadet Warrant officer from 1F read out a prayer to the congregation of approximately 500 people.
The service was followed by a parade which formed up at the Cathedral and marched through the centre of Leicester and terminated outside the main council offices in Leicester, where the salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire Lady Jennifer Gretton JP.
Cadet Sergeant Molly Henson commented about the parade “It was really nice to see the crowds out in the centre of Leicester, they were out in force to celebrate and support our troops who are wiling to risk so much for our country”
