On Friday, 02 Nov 12, Staff and Cadets from 2071 (Stamford) Squadron attended RAF Wittering as a request for help from the RAF Careers Service Motivational Outreach Team (MOT).

12 cadets donned their ‘Greens’ and attended the Trafalgar Gym at the Air Base, where they carried out various tasks, leadership exercises and were put through their paces by members of the MOT.

The event was organised by the MOT as their Air Officer Commanding was making a visit to the Unit to see the team in action. Air Commodore David Stubbs OBE ADC FRAes RAF, who is also the RAF College Commandant RAF Cranwell and Director of Recruitment RAF, witnessed first-hand the MOT and Cadets working together, attempting a whole host of challenging tasks.

Sgt (ATC) Mark Blackshaw who co-ordinated the visit said “The Motivational Outreach Team is based next to our Wing Headquarters and are Wittering based. They attended a recent parade night at our Squadron HQ where the Cadets underwent some of the same activities and we were only too pleased to provide assistance when we were asked. As the cadets were on their final day of half-term break, we had no problem getting volunteers”.

“This was a first for some of the Cadets as they had never met such a high ranking officer before. Air Commodore Stubbs spoke to the group and asked a number of questions ranging from the Cadets length of service, their flying experience and how many camps they had attended. Interestingly, the Air Commodore is also a former Air Cadet who attended Mold Squadron in North Wales”.

Pilot Officer Paul Ferguson who was Officer-In-Charge of the visit added “I would like to offer my thanks to Sgt (ATC) Blackshaw and the members of the MOT at RAF Wittering for a very enjoyable afternoon. The cadets all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were thrilled to meet the RAF College Commandant and Director of Recruitment RAF”.
