Eleven Air Cadets from 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron have successfully completed the St Johns Youth First Aid Course. The weekend long course was run by Flying Officer Liam Waring, who is a Paramedic with the East Midlands Ambulance Service. The training consisted of instructional DVDs, tuition and hands on experience. The subjects covered a wide range of medical emergencies including how to deal with an asthma attack, immobilise a broken leg and the treatment for shock.
At the end of the course all the Cadets were tested by Flight Lieutenant Waplington who is a First Aid Assessor and all successfully passed.
Fg Off Waring said “I’m extremely pleased by the efforts put in by all the Cadets. I hope they never have to use their new skills, but I am confident should the need arise they are fully equipped with the right knowledge.” Cpl Navraj Boughan, one of the Cadets on the course said “I really enjoyed the course and found it was useful. My favourite part was using the resuscitation dolls.”
