209 (West Bridgford) Squadron has been visited by an Air Cadet from 209 Sqn, Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. Sergeant Kitty Leung was one of three Cadets from Hong Kong who visited the UK. Kitty along with Corporal Jordan Chan of 308 Sqn and Cpl Connie Tang of 106 Sqn were here to spend two weeks learning to fly gliders at the Central Gliding School, RAF Syerston.

Towards the end of their stay in the UK the three visited the West Bridgford Cadets. They spent time with the Cadets and discussed the differences and similarities between the two youth organisations. At the end of the evening Flying Officer Steve Richards, OiC of 209 Sqn and the Hong Kong Cadets exchanged mementos of the visit.

Sgt Kitty Leung said of their visit to 209 Sqn “There are big differences between the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps and the ATC but I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at 209 Sqn.”
209 Sqn has a historical connection to Hong Kong. The last RAF Sqn to bear the number was stationed in Hong Kong in 1945 and in 1947 was given the designation 209 (City of Hong Kong) Sqn.
