Fourteen Air Cadets from 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron braved rain and blisters to take part in the 34th International Waendel Walk. The Cadets experienced ranged from first timers to Nijmegan Match participants
The Squadron entered the 15km route. The first 3km followed a route through Wellingborough town centre, then through suburban streets and industrial areas before finally emerging into the countryside. Warmed by the midday sun we made good progress to the first checkpoint.
After the half way point the route changed to agricultural fields. The weather changed as well with horizontal rain whipping across the fields. However we kept the pace and the moral up and eventually the route started to slope down hill as we headed back into Wellingborough.
Fours hours and a bit damper than when we had left we returned to The Castle to collect our medals and certificates.
Cadet Laura Toplass who was celebrating her 15th Birthday on the day of the walk said, “It was challenging but also enjoyable. We had a real team spirit and kept each other going.”
