While standing in West Bridgford town centre clutching a poppy collection tin and with a box of poppies strung around my neck I was approached by a man. He told me how disappointed he was by the number of people who were not wearing poppies. I told him to look at the number of people who were wearing poppies and also that there were twenty teenagers in the town centre that morning collecting for the Royal British Legion. He seemed to cheer up at this.
The Air Cadets of 209 (West Bridgford) Sqn turned out in force on the morning of Saturday 10th November. So many turned up the man from the Legion had to go and get more collection boxes. Once on the street the Cadets did brisk business with many saying they had received donations of £10 and £20 notes. The only thing more brisk than the donations was the weather.
Sergeant ATC Richard Vincett said “It was excellent to see so many Cadets turn up for the collection. They remained cheerful throughout the morning and we look forward to hearing from the Legion the total sum they collected.”
