As part of its current recruitment drive 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron ran a Recruitment Stand at the Nottingham Emmanuel School. The event was held during the schools lunch break. This was the first time 209 Sqn used its new Sqn Marquee and also the first time we were able to use our refurbished Viking Glider cockpit. Flight Sergeant ATC Shane Grice had put in a lot of work shortening the cockpit, re-covering the seat, repainting and applying new decals to the outside. We also had an information film projected onto a screen and information boards and leaflets.
The stand was very busy with some of the school teachers controlling the flow of students arriving to see what was happening. The glider cockpit was a big hit with many people sitting in it including the School’s Deputy Head, Jo Green. The four staff and two Cadets which included Cdt Eleanor Piggins who attends Emmanuel were kept busy for the whole hour of lunch break. Then a whistle blew and the bustle and noise of a school disappeared as the pupils returned to lessons.
