209 (West Bridgford) Squadron received a major award at the annual South and East Midlands Wing Field Day held at RAF Wittering. Of the 29 Squadrons in the Wing, 209 Sqn showed the greatest improvement over the previous year moving from 21st place to 5th best Squadron in the Wing. For this the Sqn was presented with The Rayson Cup which was received by the Sqns most senior Cadet, Cadet Warrant Officer Serena Linley (18).
To achieve the increase of 16 places in a year 209 Sqn had to demonstrate its commitment and achievements in the whole range of Air Cadet activities including sport, adventure training and Cadet Competitions.
209’s Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Steve Richards said of the award “I would like to thank all the Cadets and Staff of 209 Sqn for their enormous efforts over the last year and for the activities and events they have organised and run. We will keep up the hard work for further achievements over the next year and we have the added bonus of moving into a brand new Squadron HQ in 2014.”
Sqn Ldr Hill, Executive Officer of South and East Midlands paid his own tribute to Flt Lt Richards and the Staff and Cadet of 209 Sqn, “Who would of thought it? When you took over the Sqn you had half a dozen Cadets and now look at you! Big congratulations from OC Wing and Sqn Ldr Wilson. Fantastic effort for every one of you who has had an impact on the Sqn both at Wing events and down at the unit. Keep up the hard work and try and further achievements in 2013/14. Well done 209 Sqn!”
