209 (West Bridgford) Squadron are the first winners of the South And East Midlands Wing Ensemble competition. Four Cadets made up the band. FS Serena Linley played the guitar and sang, Cpl Stephanie Willett also sang and played the keyboard, Cdt Grace McDonald was also on the guitar and Sgt Barnaby Taylor learnt how to play the banjo for the competition.
They played a medley of three songs which were ‘Ho Hay’ by the Luminaries, ‘I Will Wait’ by Munford and Sons and ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ by Taylor Rae
Sgt Taylor said “We choose those songs because they went well together. We practised as a group once a week for two months. We even practised in the Sqns car park to get the acoustics right.”
Flying Officer Liam Waring who oversaw the band said “My congratulations go to the guys. Lots of hard work paid off. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say the Sqn could not be prouder!”
