Every year, each squadron with in South and East Midlands Wing is inspected by the Wing Commander or a representative; a Wing Staff Officer.
This year Long Eaton Air Cadet’s Annual Inspection was inspected by Wing Staff Officers; Squadron Leader Utting and Squadron Leader Wilson.
The inspection gives the opportunity for the Wing Commander to see how the Squadrons of his wing are doing and how, especially, Long Eaton Squadron is expanding the horizon for cadets. It also gives the opportunity for the cadets to show their standards of drill and their achievements throught the year.
The night started off with Squadron Leader Utting formally inspecting their uniform, speaking to a few cadets about their career so far. Some who have only just started their cadet career, some who are half way through to some who’s cadet career is nearly finished. Squadron Leader Utting was intrigued to the range of experiences the cadets at Long Eaton Air Cadets have got, from the Annual Spring Camp to Nijmegen and the Qualifies Aerospace Instructors Course – some of the top experiences the Wing offers.
Cadet Hannah Bilson said, “It was a new experience, especially as I have only just enrolled into my flight. The Squadron Leader was the first one I’ve ever seen, and he asked about my best experience and I said little – he said that will change!”
The night was rounded off by Squadron Leader Utting and Squadron Leader Wilson who spoke to cadets and praised them on the achievements they have achieved – they both gave awards to cadets from first class cadet to cadets being awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
