On Saturday 11th April, Flying Officer Jessica Kment attended the Wing Training Officers’ Conference at RAF Wittering. It was an event that brought representatives from all 29 Squadrons in the Wing together to both receive information and to share ideas.

The day started with talks from both Flight Lieutenant Hudson, for cadet training, and Squadron Leader Richards, for adult training. They discussed the developments that had been made so far and how the Wing is now in a better place than ever before to give out excellent standards of training, to both staff and cadets. Alongside this were a few new initiatives, but we don’t want to spoil anything yet, do we?

There were then opportunities for breakout sessions, in which staff discussed different strengths and weaknesses and how these could best be managed. It was nice for the staff members to both meet old friends, but also be introduced to new members that they might not have met before. Overall, it was great to find solutions to issues that everyone had in common and come up with new ideas of course!

Wing Commander Mills gave a talk on all the wonderful opportunities available to both staff and cadets with regards to gaining qualifications. They talked about BTECs available to cadets, but also degree level qualifications available for staff! Again, a section of the Air Training Corps that is forever developing and moving forward.

Flying Officer Kment said “Overall, it was a surprisingly enjoyable day! It’s always nice to know that everyone is dealing with the same issues and it’s always nice to bond with friends and meet a few new people as well”
