On Sunday 10th May, 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron, attended the Wing Athletics Competition held at Saffron Lane Athletics Centre in Leicester. Where approximately 20 of our Cadets attended, each who gave it their all. Meeting in the early hours at the Squadron in order to get there for the events starting at 0930 hours. In the competition the Cadets were split into five classes: Junior boys, Senior boys, Youth boys, Junior girls and Senior girls, labelled class A, B, C, D and E retrospectively.

There were all your standard athletic events running simultaneously, with Cadet Flight Sergeant Damien Simpson acting as team leader, organising the Cadets to ensure they made it to their events. Once the main activities were over it was on to the heats. First was the relay, then the 400m, which was followed by 1500m, 100m, 800m and 200m being the final heats event of the day.

We also had a number of Cadets who managed to make it into the South and East Midlands Team, these were Cadet Corporal Craig Harrison, 400m, Cadet Sam Bunting, 200m and Cadet Ethan Bates, shotput and discus. They will be attending regional athletics later in the year.

A big congratulations to all cadets who competed and gave it their all as well as cheering on and encouraging the rest of their peers during races.
