2195 Cadets Celebrate 60th Anniversary

2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron held its Annual Dining In Night at Cleve Lodge, Long Eaton on Saturday 11th October 2008.

The occasion was made even more special because it was the 60th Anniversary of the Squadron’s formation.

Guests included, Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing and his Wife Kathy, Wing Commander Martin Nash OBE, RAFVR Ret’d and his wife Sue, Wing Commander Phil Giles OBE, RAFVR Ret’d, Wing Staff Officers, Squadron Leader Mark Richards and Squadron Leader Andy Pass, plus ex-Commanding Officers of 2195 Squadron and Erewash RAFA guests to name but a few.

Wing Commander Dickinson made presentations to Cadets from the Squadron which included 2195 Squadron’s Cadet of the Year which was won by Cadet Chris Mills, Best New Recruit which was awarded to Cadet Katie Elam. The East Midlands Trophy for Aviation Studies was won by Sergeant Matt Dorrington, A special presentation of an Commandant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service was made to Flight Lieutenant Gary Marriot ex-Commanding Officer of 2195 Squadron.

The host and current OiC 2195 Squadron Pilot Officer Jack Stepanian gave a speech outlining the Squadron’s history and achievements to date, he also thanked Staff and Cadets from the Squadron for all their efforts and achievements.

Wing Commander Dickinson commented that it was one of the most in-depth and comprehensive Squadron History speeches that he had heard for a long time.

Pilot Officer Stepanian also added “I was very pleased that the evening went so well and without any hitches, I would particularly like to thank the Staff at Cleve Lodge for the excellent food and service and a big thank you to all my Guests, and Cadets for making it such a special and enjoyable evening”.
