ATC 2229 (Loughborough) Squadron
What a truly excellent group of youngsters represent this Squadron, and the ATC as a whole.
As a Church, we are really grateful for the help they so willingly, enthusiastically and politely give: On Thursday 27th November, 2008, virtually all the Squadron turned up at the Church, under the supervision of WO. M. Butler, to deliver 100’s of leaflets around the Parish, advertising our Christmas Fayre. It was incredible how quickly they fulfilled this task which we, as a Church, find very hard to complete due to rather an elderly congregation.
On Saturday 6th December 2008, the following arrived at the Church to help at our Christmas Fayre:
Pilot Officer R. Dring
CI. T. Dring
Cpls. J. Heath, J. Dring and E. Severn
Cdts. L. Smith, T. Murray, E. Willis, A. Schmidt, H. Cherry, B. Smith, L, Arme, S. Orr, A. Squires, O. Blore, C. Severn, S. Blanchard, J.Dibb and M. Townsend.
They began arriving about 9.45am and helped to put up and sort out the stalls, keep us all supplied with tea and coffee and undertake every task given without a murmur of complaint.
Their main task was to organise and to man the outside games of ‘splat the rat’, ‘tennis balls into a bucket’, ‘ping-pong balls into the jars’, and ‘guess the number of lollies in the jar’. They did this with the excellent result of collecting £28.00. Considering this was raised by charging 10p and 20p per go, it was an outstanding achievement.
Other tasks included manning a book stall, helping on other stalls, ensuring the adults had some mulled wine, and helping to clear everything away at the end of the afternoon.
Numerous people commented on the willingness, helpfulness, and politeness shown by the above, and, as a Church, we greatly appreciate you. You are, beyond doubt, excellent ambassadors for the ATC, so thank you all.
May God bless you this Christmas and throughout 2009.
