2248 (Rutland) Squadron ‘listens’ as its President, Air Commodore Gary Waterfall visits…..

On Tuesday 14 May 13, Air Commodore Gary Waterfall RAF, visited 2248 Sqn to meet staff, cadets and give a presentation on his operational RAF career.

The Air Commodore (Air Cdre) who is currently the RAF Typhoon Force Commander, spoke about his time as a member of the Red Arrows Aerobatic Team, a Pilot, Instructor and Commander of the RAF Harrier Force and the last serving operational Station Commander at the former air base, RAF Cottesmore.

The Air Cdre spoke of his experiences and skills, in particular his operational tours and service in Iraq. The cadets asked lots of questions and later spoke of how much they enjoyed their time with their President.

Cadet Sergeant Billy Richards said “It was a really enjoyable night and to hear first hand how demanding, diverse and exciting the Air Commodore’s career has been was thrilling. It was also a first for some of the younger element of the Squadron, who had never met an officer of Air Rank before”.

Our next meeting with Air Cdre Waterfall is at his RAF Coningsby base, where he has extended an invitation to all members of the Sqn to visit during the summer. Plans are currently underway, where the cadets are hoping get close to the Typhoon aircraft and lots more. Watch this space for the RAF Coningsby post visit report.
