Recently, cadets from 2418(Sherwood) squadron set out on their silver D of E expedition. The cadets started bright and early in the morning, setting off from Monsal Head Hotel in Derbyshire. The weather was fantastic, with only slight rain over the weekend, which the cadets were glad about!

The first day went very well, with a good route, which whilst being challenging, was tackled very well by all cadets. This led the cadets out to their first campsite at Haddon Grove. After the tents were pitched the exhausted cadets cooked dinner and made preparations for the next day.

Day two was to take the cadets to their second campsite at Barn farm. This was the most challenging day, with the cadets covering 17 km plus the extra distance whilst temporarily misplaced… or lost! This helped the cadets to learn how to work as a team in a difficult and pressurized situation. After walking the extra few kilometers the cadets couldn’t wait to get to the campsite that evening.

The final day had arrived and for the cadets the best day by far of the expedition! The day started with brilliant views off Stanton Moor. The cadets walked up towards Chatsworth house and stopped for lunch by the river. The end checkpoint was in Baslow, where the cadets met their assessor and all found out that they had passed their practice or live expedition.
