Recently, cadets from 2418 Sherwood Squadron attended RAF Cranwell to go flying. The day started early as all the cadets had to be at the squadron for 7am, however everybody was excited and raring to get up into the air. After picking up cadets from a neighbouring squadron we set off for RAF Cranwell.
On arrival we were greeted by the CO and given a health and safety brief on the day’s activities. After picking out flight suits, helmets, glasses, gloves and parachutes everybody eagerly waited for their name to be called and to be assigned to an aircraft. After getting into the aircraft the pilot helps out by showing you all the controls and describing their functions to help better your understanding of the air craft. Finally, we were up! One by one the aircraft took off until they were all in the air. When flying the pilot goes through many activities such as aerobatics and trimming! We also got to fly the aircraft ourselves for a while! My pilot even let me fly all the way back to Cranwell on my own!
The weather was amazing which made the experience all the more better! Everybody was tired at the end of the day but we were all really pleased with what we had achieved. There will be much more flying for 2418 soon enough and the lists are always full. Personally, I can’t wait for next time.
