Over the weekend of the 20 – 22 August 17 cadets from 348 (Ilkeston) squadron ATC and 5 cadets from the Derbyshire ACF along with 9 members of staff went to Edinburgh to see the Royal Military Tattoo. We travelled to Edinburgh in Friday the 20th and arrived at the Lothian and Borders ACF training centre which was our base for the weekend. On Saturday, we went on a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia which is moored in Edinburgh and having been decommissioned is now a museum. The cadets spent 2 hours on board, seeing how the Royal Family travelled the world. After a packed lunch we returned to the city and the cadets visited Edinburgh Castle where they spent time looking at the various museums within the castle. On the saturday night we went to the Royal Military Tattoo. The performance started at 22:30 and included bands from the Ghurkhas, the Royal Jordanian Army and the Royal New Zealand Army as well as the Guards and Scottish Regiments. There was also a display from the Imps motorcycle team and the Army PTI display team. The display ended with a 20 minute firework display. We arrived back at the ACF training centre at 01:30 in the morning. Thankfully the weather was kind to us and all agreed that this was an excellent trip and the cadets enjoyed their visit North of the border.
