Cadets from 348 (Ilkeston) sqn have spent an evening helping Scouts from the 4th Derby (Derwent) Scout Group.
Flt Lt Bateman’s son is a member of the Scout Group and their leader asked if we could help them with their marching.
The cadets first gave a demonstration of how to form a flight, followed by a demonstration of drill under command and then did some continuity drill.
After a break the 15 scouts were divided up into groups of 3 and each cadet spent some time teaching them basic drill movements. At the end of the session a competition was held to see which group had learnt and could do the most drill movements. Finally all of the scouts were formed into a flight with the cadets acting as markers and they all practised some drill as a flight.
This was a very successful evening and the experience was enjoyed by both the Scouts and the cadets involved. CFS Hallam was the DI for the night, assisted by Cpl Ashley, Cdt Ashley, Cdt Ratcliffe and Cdt Brown. Unfortunately due to photographic restrictions no scouts could be shown in the photo.
