On Sunday 19th February 2012, 504 (West Nottingham) Sqn competed in the annual South and East Midlands Wing Cross Country competition at RAF Wittering, the course spanned three miles around the base.

Cadets from our Squadron competed in three of the groups; Youths and junior boys and girls. First up from our Squadron were Cadet Sgt Coult, Cadet Cpl Dunker, Cadet Cpl Gribbons and Cadet Oaks finishing an impressive sixth out of 29 Squadrons partaking. The junior girls came next, Cadet Jepson, Cadet Meehan, Cadet Williams and Cadet Keeling running the three mile course coming fourteenth overall. The last group to participate were the Junior Boys; representing our Squadron were Cadets Jepson, Owens and Pepper. Despite our low numbers in this category they still managed to come tenth.

The day was rounded up with a final parade, where the results were given and Wing Commander Dickenson presented the winning Squadrons with trophies. The overall winners were 126 Derby Squadron.

Although we left with a lack of silverware, everyone was happy in the knowledge that we had given our all and had a great, but tiring day.

If any 13 to 17 year olds are interested in taking up the challenge of the Air cadets, please contact the squadron on a Tuesday or Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm or visit the ACO Website,
