As the summer draws to a close, 2502 (Hamilton) Air Cadets reflect on the summer of fundraising they have had.
In August they supported Evington Village with their summer feté. The cadets arrived on the Friday evening to help set the site up, getting stuck in and helped in every area from moving tables and chairs to putting 12 × 12 tents up. Cpl Niam Kalyan (16) and Cpl Corey Lynch (16) spending the whole evening putting out miles of bunting around the village green, which was much to the appreciated by the event organisers.
On the Saturday morning, duties for the day included marshalling stall holders to their pitches, gate management, recruitment and fundraising. The cadets raffled off a Biggles the Bear on the day raising just over £100 for the squadron.
The cadet recruitment stand was visited during the day by His Right Worshipful, The Lord Mayor of Leicester Councillor Abdul Osman. Who took time to talk to the cadets and staff. He took a keen interest in how we had done on the day and thanks the cadets for all the hard work on the run up and day of the event.
At the end of a wonderfully sunny day, the cadets then helped return the site back to it’s natural state as a park and playground. Which included gathering in the miles of bunting that had been put out the night before.
Cadet K Raikundlia said “it’s been a great day and first time I’ve done Evington. I’ll will be back next year”. John Sloan of the Evington committee commented “the cadets have been brilliant. They have done everything asked of them and this year they have been invaluable. They have done far more this year than in other years. They are wonderful and we will be making a donation to them for their help”.
