Cadets and staff from 1359 (Beeston) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, turned out in force on Sunday 11th November to pay their respects to those members of the armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts past and present.
The cadets joined veterans and personnel from 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group, based at Chetwynd Barracks, along with young people from other youth organisations such as the Scouts and Sea Cadets. As well as the more experienced cadets taking part in the parade the newest members of the squadron assisted the Royal British Legion organisers in acting as marshals to keep the area around the war memorial clear to allow for the wreath laying. They then escorted the veterans back to the Legion following the church service ensuring that the whole squadron played a part in the day’s events.
1359 were also tasked with providing banner parties for some of the banners being paraded. Cadet Flight Sergeant (CFS) James Grant was responsible for the Union Flag and was ably supported by Cadet Corporals (Cpl) Sophie Gibson and Patrick Bates as banner escorts; the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) banner was carried by CFS Beth Denham and Cadet Sergeant Brandon Redgate paraded 1359’s own banner.
