When Broxtowe Borough Council rang for urgent help, Stapleford & Sandiacre Squadron Air Cadets were there to save the star attraction of the Council’s “Play Day”.
The “Play Day” organiser rang Flight Lieutenant Allan Munns, Officer Commanding 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron, Air Training Corps, desperate for help and Allan was only too pleased to come to the rescue.
The star attraction of the day was to be climbing wall, however, because of the recent weather, the sports field venue was too waterlogged to take the climbing wall’s weight. The squadron Headquarters which borders the sports field has considerable hard standing and Allan agreed to change his working schedule so that he would be on hand to open the grounds for the Climbing wall.
The “Play Day” provides many activities for youngsters aged from four to fourteen with the climbing wall attracting by far the larges crowd.
“When we saw the state of the ground we were disheartened, Allan turned up trumps at very short notice and saved the day” said Claire James, the organizer.
Allan explained: “The Council has always been good to the squadron and it is a real pleasure to do something in return”
