ATC Sgt Attends RAF Cranwell SNCO Initial Course

It was a first for Sgt (ATC) Mark Blackshaw of 2071 (Stamford) Sqn, when he attended the SNCO Initial Course held at the Adult Training Facility (ATF) at Royal Air Force Cranwell.

Mark joined 2071 Sqn two and half years ago initially as a CI. In 2009 Mark attended a PU course at RAF Cottesmore before deciding that a career in uniform was for him. Mark attended Wing HQ and under went his SNCO Board, successfully achieving a pass.

In October 2010, Sgt (ATC) Blackshaw donned his uniform for the first time and quickly adapted to his new role as the squadron’s training officer, having also attended the Training Officers Course at RAF Cottesmore.

Mark said of his time at RAF Cranwell “I was slightly apprehensive about going to Cranwell, but once I had arrived and met with the other course candidates I soon settled in and relaxed. The classroom work and drill certainly boosted my confidence and I was thrilled to get a high score on my final examination.

Living in a working Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess for the week was one of the highlights of the course. My thanks go out to the directing staff for assisting with my personal development and I hope to put my new found experiences to good use at the Squadron”.
