Recently there was good news for 2070 (Glenfield) Squadron, as Pilot Officer RAFVRT James Brewster gained his Basic Expedition Leader (BEL) qualification.
The Course was sponsored and ran by the South and East Midlands Wing and held over a series of eight weekends. The last weekend culminated in a two day assessment in the Peak District, where all the skills and theories were put to the test. The syllabus covered areas such as:
- Navigation to the silver standard of the National Navigation Award Scheme
- Remote Supervision
- Theory on the hills
- Instructing on an outdoor subject, practical and theory
- Effective and appropriate use of outdoor kit
Well done to Pilot Officer RAFVRT James Brewster, who can now officially train and instruct cadets in Expedition and Adventure Training activities. There is no doubt, that the Squadron will benefit and looks forward to more Adventure Training, with him taking the lead.
