Battle of Britain parade by Loughborough Air Cadets

Article posted: Oct 11, 2009 by Sqn Ldr Mayoh-Smith

After a week collecting donations on behalf of the Royal Air Force Association’s “Wings Appeal”, cadets and staff from 2229 (Loughborough) Squadron paraded from their base at the TA Centre, Leicester Road, towards the Church of the Good Shepherd in Shelthorpe. At the Church, a moving service was held to commemorate the Battle of Britain, where so many airmen lost their lives. A number of cadets and staff also attended the parade held in Leicester that morning, bringing together squadrons and organisations from around the district. It was a chance for the cadets to be reminded of the sacrifices made during the war years on behalf of our country, by men and women sometimes not much older than them!

Some really good photos of the Battle of Britain parade in Leicester can be viewed at the Leicester Mercury website gallery.
