Battle of Britain Remembered

Around 150 Air Cadets from around the City of Nottingham attended a church service and then paraded through the City to the Council House in remembrance those who fought in the Battle of Britain.

This annual service and parade is organised by the Nottingham Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) marking “Wings Week”, a week of raising funds needed by the RAFA to continue its work looking after the care and welfare of the ex Royal Air Force personnel needing it.

The service was held in St Mary’s church in Nottingham’s Lace Market and was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Nottingham, Sir Andrew Buchanan BT and the Lord Mayor of Nottingham and Councillor Mohammed Munir. Squadron Leader Andy Pass, RAFVRT represented South and East Midlands Wing of the Air Training Corps.

After the service Squadron Leader Carl Wilson RAFVRT, led the parade of banners, veterans and cadets to the Market Square where the was salute taken by the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, and the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire. The Nottingham Army Cadet Force provided their excellent band to lead the parade.

The Wing Banner was also paraded with a full escort drawn from cadets that are part of a new Wing Drill Demonstration Flight.

Both the Lord Lieutenant and the Lord Mayor inspected the cadets in front of the Council House.
