Cadets and staff from 1359 (Beeston) Sqn are celebrating another successful Wing Field Day competition. This year’s event, again held at RAF Wittering, took place on Sunday 5th July and saw 1359 compete against the other 28 squadrons that make up South and East Midlands Wing.

The squadron were joint winners of the event last year and were hoping to win it out right this year but faced stiff competition from other squadrons intent on winning it themselves. In the end Beeston finished 3rd overall which was a great success and shows the level of competition which exists in the Wing.

Whilst not taking the overall first placed spot the squadron did have some notable results including taking home the coveted CFS Challenge Cup for Drill. The team of 12 cadets were led by CWO Marie Grant who was also the joint winner of the Best NCO In Charge Drill Squad award. The drill team will now represent South and East Midlands Wing at the Regional Wing Field Day competition later in the year. Beeston came third in both the First Aid and Aero Modelling Diorama competitions and Cadet Corporal Anisah Britton came second in the Cadet Photographic competition. The squadron improved on last year’s performance in other events notably the Shooting and Aircraft Recognition where they finished 6th and 5th respectively.

As well as the presentations for Wing Field Day the final parade included the presentation of annual awards. 1359 (Beeston) Sqn had reason to celebrate again as CWO Marie Grant took the Best Female Cadet in the Wing and the Overall Best Cadet in the Wing awards, capping a very successful day for her.

OC 1359, Flt Lt Phil Bannister VR(T), said afterwards “Another successful Wing Field Day for the squadron. The cadets have worked very hard over the last few months to ensure we would be in with a chance of winning and we came close to doing just that. We’ll have a fun night on the next parade to thank them for their hard work and commitment”.

The staff of 1359 (Beeston) Sqn thank all the cadets for their efforts over the last few months and on the day and congratulations to CWO Marie Grant on her awards.
