Article posted: Apr 15, 2009 by Sqn Ldr Wilson

1359 (Beeston) Sqn of the Air Training Corps held their annual Dining-In event on Saturday 21st March at the Village Hotel in Chilwell, Nottingham. The event had been arranged to celebrate the squadron’s successes during 2008 and also celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the South and East Midlands Wing of the ATC. Amongst those attending were the last OC of the old East Midlands Wing, the first OC of the combined South and East Midlands Wing and the current OC of the Wing.

Over 115 guests made up of squadron staff and cadets, civilian committee members, staff from Wing and other squadrons, local dignitaries and for the first time cadet’s parents, enjoyed a superb three course meal together with wine and coffee.

Following the meal were speeches from Flt Lt Philip Bannister, OC 1359 Squadron, Cllr Sue Wildey, Mayor of Broxtowe, and Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, OC South and East Midlands Wing. All commented on what a successful year 2008 had been for Beeston but also on how the Wing and the Corps as a whole go from strength to strength and the continued importance of offering the various activities that the Air Cadet Organisation does for young people.

Presentations to the cadets followed with 13 trophies up for grabs followed by 4 promotions.

With that the formal part of the evening was complete and the cadets were treated to a disco provided by ex-cadet Jason Norton whilst the adults retired to the bar. The evening finally ended in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The squadron would like to thank all those people who made the night such a great success, the civilian committee, the staff and waiters at the Village Hotel and all the guests for attending and helping to make it such a special evening. Congratulations to those cadets who won trophies and to those who were promoted. To all the other cadets, keep up the good work, it might be your turn next time, and lets make 2009 even better for 1359 (Beeston) Sqn.
