In the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, Officer Commanding 126 (City of Derby) Squadron, Squadron Leader Ian Marshall RAFVR (T), received the MBE.
This award is in recognition of over 30 years service to the Air Training Corps and in particular recognises the outstanding records of achievement at both 126 Squadron and his former unit 140 (Matlock) Squadron under his leadership.
OC South & East Midlands Wing, Wg Cdr Nigel Dickinson OBE RAFVR commented;
“This is just recognition for the incredible amount of time and effort Ian has put into the organisation over the years. His track record of success in the Lees trophy speaks for itself as does his success with cadets from 126 winning the Dacre Sword and being runner up in the Dacre Brooch competitions. When you add in the fantastic achievements of the Shooting Team and Rifle Drill Display Team along with the everyday activities of such a large unit you realise what level of commitment is needed by Ian to manage such an active and versatile squadron.
Congratulations and Well done Ian, we are all very proud of you”.
