It was a proud day for one of the Wing Staff team recently as he was introduced to HRH The Earl of Wessex at St. James’s Palace in London.
Sqn Ldr Andy Flynn was invited as a VIP Guest to a DofE Gold Award presenation ceremony. Sqn Ldr Flynn is the Wing DofE Officer and also the Region DofE Officer for Central & East Region, a dual role which he is finding very rewarding and enjoyable.
“There have been a lot of changes with the DofE recently and it is currently quite a challenging time ensuring all our volunteers throughout our Wing and C&E Region are fully up to speed with the new requirements and procedures”, Sqn Ldr Flynn said. “To be invited as a VIP Guest at St James’s palace was a huge honour and it is a day i will never forget. To be involved in the DofE Scheme is extremely rewarding and to be present to witness so many young people receivieng their Gold Awards was a huge honour. The icing on the cake weas being personally introduced to HRH The Earl of Wessex. He is following in his Fathers footseps and is a great supporter of the DofE. His Royal Highness will be given the title Duke of Edinburgh in due course, when the present title now held by Prince Philip eventually reverts to the Crown”
