Cadets From Three Counties Gain BTEC Awards

Article posted: Apr 29, 2007 by sl1 At a recent presentation evening held at No 1461 (Wigston) Sqn headquarters, seventeen cadets from across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire (part of South & East Midlands Wing) were awarded Certificates marking successful completion of the BTEC First Diploma in Public Service.

The presentation of the Certificates was a task shared by Lt Col Edward Woods, Director of CVQO and Gp Cpt Jon Ford, Regional Commandant, Central and East Region.

Lt Col Woods, in a short introduction, praised the cadets for their work and application to obtain the various grades. Lt Col Woods expressed his belief that: “The Awards would give the cadets an edge when it came to gaining employment either within the three services or in civilian life”.

As the Award receives sponsorship, there is no cost to the cadets except for the time they put in. A majority of the work towards the Diploma is formed by the cadet syllabus and other cadet activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The haul of certificates marks a year of work for the cadets supported by Squadron BTEC officers. Full support was also given By Sqn Ldr Andy Flynn, Wing Vocational Qualifications Officer and the rest of the Team at South and East Midlands Wing.
