Cadets from 2248 (Rutland) Sqn and 5f (Northampton) Sqn were on hand to help 504 RAF Aux Sqn celebrate the Freedom of Entry to Oakham.
504 Aux Sqn used to be based at RAF Cottesmore but with the base closing they moved to RAF Wittering. Because of their strong ties with the town they were granted this honour. Band members from 5F Sqn led the parade through the High Street, while the Rutland cadets produced a Guard of Honour at the church and along the route. They also handed out flags to the members of the public and escorted VIP’s. Cdt Yasmin Makinde said, “It’s exciting to be part of an historic event in Oakham, but also sad that 2 of their men have died in Afghanistan so we should also be remembering them”.
